Replace Item Name

The location/equipment tree view has the ability to do search and replace on the item's name (location name, equipment name).  You access this feature in one of two ways: pressing Ctrl+H while in the item tree, or by right-clicking in the item tree and choosing "Replace Item Name...".  All selected items in the tree will be searched (not all of them, unless they're all selected).  See the topic on selecting multiple items to learn how to select more than one item in the tree view.  The following rules apply when using Replace Item Name:

    1. The replace feature does not support scanning through the items and giving you the option to replace or not.  When you choose to execute the replace operation, all instances of the Find text will be replaced with Replace With.
    2. You can undo up to the last 10 replace operations.  This even works after the database has been saved.  When you undo, any item whose name has been changed since the replace will not be undone.  You access the Undo feature by right-clicking in the item tree.
    3. The Find text is required.  The Replace text can be empty if you want.  Any instances of Find will be removed when Replace is empty.
    4. You have the option to match case.  If unchecked, the term Example will match EXAMPLE, example, and ExAmPLe.  If checked, only Example would match.

For one case study, this feature is very handy when you're inspecting a building with multiple floors where the electrical rooms on each floor are laid out identically.  Often the equipment designation includes the floor number.  So suppose you inspect floor 20 and the electrical room contains the following equipment:

Then you notice that floor 19's room is laid out the same way, but the equipment is named like this:

You could copy the entire electrical room from floor 20 and paste it on floor 19.  Then select the five items in the newly copied electrical room and do a Replace Item Name where Find is 20 and Replace With is 19.
