Components

In Aspect, all pieces of equipment have components.  You don't take thermal images and enter temperature data of a piece of equipment, but rather the components of that equipment.  A piece of equipment can contain an unlimited number of components.  This grants you the flexibility to create simple equipment such as a small disconnect with only one component, or a large complex piece of equipment such as an Motor Control Panel with several components.

Whenever you create a piece of equipment, Aspect also creates a component for it called the Primary Inspection Point which can be renamed if desired.  Quite often, this is the only component that equipment may need.  For example, an electrical panel that's small enough such that one thermal image can cover the entire panel would have only one component.  You photograph the image and enter the temperature data for the panel's primary inspection point (the breakers probably).  However, if a panel is very tall it may become necessary to split the panel into two components--perhaps the upper breakers and lower breakers.  Then you would take pictures and enter temperature data for the two components (upper and lower breakers) of the one piece of equipment (the panel).

Is it possible to just create two pieces of equipment for the preceding example called "Panel ABC (Upper Breakers)" and "Panel ABC (Lower Breakers)"?  Definitely.  If that makes the most sense to you and your customer then you can absolutely set it up that way.  The disadvantage to that method is that an engineer standing in front of that panel might get confused looking at a report with two pieces of equipment called "Panel ABC" when actually there is only one panel.  Additionally, you'll have to enter the equipment data (such as Asset ID, Inspection Frequency, Manufacturer, etc.) for both pieces of equipment.  Having components simply grants you additional flexibility to organize your inspection inventory.
