Importing Images
Aspect has the ability to import daylight, infrared, and photo images from any folder on your computer, including directly off of your camera card. These images can be imported for the active inspection, the active site (essentially for all of that site's inspections), all sites and inspections, or it can just copy all images into the active inspection's asset folder. Generally speaking, the options for importing images will not change much (if at all) between inspections of all your customers, which is why Aspect retains the settings in the Image Import window and starts with those settings each time you open it.
For all of the import types except for All Images, Aspect builds a list of all images filenames that are in use. This way, Aspect will only import those referenced images from the source folder (the camera card usually). For example, suppose you have an SD card from your infrared camera that contains images from your last five inspections because you haven't cleared it out after each of those inspections, but you only want to import the images from the last inspection. By following the steps below, Aspect will only import the images from the card that are associated with the active inspection.
To import a set of images into the active inspection, follow these steps:
- Insert your camera card into the card reader. The drive number assigned to the card by the operating system will vary, but for this example let's suppose it's "E".
- Open the customer database you want to import images into.
- Activate the inspection you want to import images into.
- Open the Image Import window from the Tools page of the ribbon bar.
- In the Import From section, click the Browse button and select the drive assigned to your SD card ("E" in this example).
- Click the Include Subfolders checkbox. This tells Aspect to look at all folders under the root folder. Likewise, if you know the folder all of the images are stored in, you could browse for that folder instead and uncheck this box.
- In the Import section, choose Images Used by the Active Inspection.
- In the Import Settings section, choose the resizing and quality settings that you want. Generally, the following settings are a good balance between quality and size:
- JPEG Quality: 80
- Resize box checked
- Resize to Recommended Settings
- Don't Allow Enlargement box checked
- If you are importing images from a supported camera manufacturer, Aspect can read the thermal image data directly from the image (emissivity, reflected temperature, etc.). Aspect will only import this information for images used by a problem. Check the Import Thermal Parameters for Problem Images box if you would like Aspect to read this data and automatically populate it into the problem detail.
- While importing images, Aspect can make backups of the original images to a folder of your choice. If you want to do this, check the Keep Copies of Original Images box and browse to the folder you want the original images saved to.

The folder that is used for the original images is saved with the other Import Image settings, and will therefore start with the last folder you saved to. Make sure you update this folder before importing or else you'll get images from more than one inspection in that target folder. |
Some notes on the various camera manufacturers
Presently, Aspect supports reading thermal image data from the following camera manufacturers according to the following table:
|
Manufacturer |
Which Thermal Parameters |
|
FLIR |
ALL |
|
FOTRIC |
ALL |

All except Distance and Transmission |
As the above manufacturers make more features available, or as other manufacturers provide the ability to read their images, we will implement them accordingly.
