Problem Detail

Problem detail contains data for the currently selected problem.  This topic explains many of the data fields associated with a problem.  You may also refer to the topic on documenting a problem for more information.

Path:  This shows the fully qualified path to the equipment that is associated with the problem, starting with the root location.  All locations are separated by a slash "/".  This field is read-only.

Component:  This shows the component associated with the problem.  This field is read-only.

Go To Equipment/Location:  This button takes you to the equipment or location associated with this problem.  If this is a piece of equipment with multiple components, the associated component will also be selected.

Run Integrity Check:  This button runs an integrity check for the currently selected problem.

Name:  This is the name of the problem, which is basically a short description of the problem so it can be uniquely identified in the tree view, and in the problem documentation sections of location and equipment.

Barcode:  This is the barcode of the equipment associated with this problem.  You can edit this barcode here if you want.

Status:  The status of a problem can be one of the following values:

    • Open: the problem has not been repaired and verified.
    • Repaired: the problem has been repaired but not verified by inspection.
    • Closed: the problem has been repaired and verified by inspection.

You cannot create a recurring problem from a closed or repaired problem.

Calculated Severity:  The severity of the electrical problem as calculated by Aspect.  This calculation depends on the Severity Calculation Method.

Override Severity:  The severity of the electrical problem as specified by the thermographer.  If set to anything other than Not Overridden, this value will be used in reports instead of the calculated severity.

Recurring Problem:  This check box tells you if the problem is a recurring problem, that is, it is a problem based on a pre-existing problem from a previous inspection.  This field is read-only.

The Template Fields

The problem description, cause, consequences, and repair procedure are all template fields.  That is, they can be built from pre-existing text in your global library that can then be edited for further detail.  For more information, see the topic on Problem Templates.

The Severity Calculation Method

Electrical problems can have their severity calculated by one of two methods:

    • Reference Component
    • Absolute Temperature Criteria

In this section, you choose the method and range (if using the reference component calculation method) that you want to use for this problem.  For more information, see the topics on Severity Calculation Method and Problem Severity Ranges.

Images

Each problem can have up to two images associated with it.  Visual problems can have any two images (typically daylight) and electrical problems can have one daylight and one infrared image.  By default, these images are the same as the associated component.  Locations do not have default images and must be supplied manually.  Even though problems automatically use the images associated with the component, they can be changed to something different if you want.  For electrical problems, the images can be set from the IR and Daylight sequences of the Auto-Sequenced Fields.  For visual problems, the images can be set from the Photo sequence of the auto-sequenced fields.

Infrared Image Thermal Parameters

These fields can be automatically set in two ways:

    • By checking the Import Thermal Parameters for Problem Images check box when importing images.
    • By clicking the Get button in this box.

Thermal parameters cannot be read from an infrared image that has been processed by resizing or adjusting the image quality--they can only be read from an original digital image.  Therefore, it makes the most sense to read this data during image importing.  However, if the infrared image associated with this problem is still an original, the Get button will read this data.

In addition, these fields can also be set manually.

Problem and Reference Fields

These fields contain the temperature and amperage data for the problem component and reference components (if using that calculation method).  The availability of these fields will change depending on the severity calculation method you are using.

Notes

These are notes associated with the problem, and are provided for your reference only--they do not appear in any reports.

Repair Data

These fields contain repair data for the problem: the electrician who fixed it, the date of the repair, and any repair notes.  These fields are used in the Problem Repair report.
